Good idea Brett, implementation may be a problem however "how would you eat an Elephant" so yes I think it may well be possible.

It certainly is a common theme here, and the answers are often not good. I'm not sure about the best way to assemble and present such information.

Wiki pages are are good option for user contributed reference information without having to rake through the discussions across multiple forum topics. The sleeping bags comparison page on our wiki is a brilliant example of this.

Do people think a wiki page would be suitable for this? A related forum topic might also help to gather, discuss and refine the information.

Just some further clarification on the wiki version of this idea...

The wiki page would be the equivalent of the super-moderated forum topic. Ie, it would be a concise but comprehensive reference all on one page, without any additional discussion to wade through. A related forum topic could include additional discussions, as well as new items and/or corrections which people might want to suggest for the wiki page. Of course anyone in the wiki group (which is easy to join) can update the wiki page directly themselves. Then when people ask transport questions, we could pull answers from the wiki page to post in reply, or could simply link to the wiki page suggesting that they look there (and that they let us know if it answered their question or not).

One problem with this is that the information on the wiki page can get out of date, but I think this is a possibility whatever format the information is in, if there are not people dedicated to keeping it up to date.

Here are a couple of existing examples which are similar:
NB: The wiki page wouldn't necessarily need a single corresponding forum topic, but can have information sourced from any topic in which relevant information is posted, and of course from any other relevant sources.

OK, well we can encourage people to start posting all they know about transport options either here, or in a new topic. Once there is a bit of a collection started, then it can be coalesced, coagulated, and generally put together in a more formal structure. I'm happy to leave that in your hands, if you like, or can do it myself if you'd prefer. In any case, once it's up and running, it'll be available to everyone to help out.

OK, good plan. I don't think there's any way of converting from Word or Excel directly, but it's fairly easy to extract the text from them, anyhow.

Scotts Peak Dam seems to be a location where transport is often queried too, and Farmhouse Creek (both of these for Arthurs walks).

There is (was?) a local bus that ran from Bicheno. PWS were doing a lot of upgrade work around the carpark/walk start when I was there, but that's about 3 years ago and I believe work is long finished. Anyway that was the dropoff/pickup point, although I think the bus may have also stopped elsewhere, such as the Visitor Centre.

Pretty sure one of the major bus lines also stops there or nearby. Tassielink? Ah, may answer both questions I think:

*Transfers from Coles Bay turn off to Freycinet National Park provided by Bicheno Coaches (0419 570 293)
*Transfers from Freycinet National Park to Coles Bay turn off provided by Bicheno Coaches (0419 570 293)

Excellent idea Brett (from one who has had to research and arrange transport more than once) :)
