Hallett Cove Glacial Circuit

Starting from the Boatshed Café car park off Heron Way, Hallett Cove, this walk takes you on a circuit around Hallett Cove Conservation Park. Located in Adelaide's southern suburbs, Hallett Cove Conservation Park is a geological and archaeological site of international significance, containing evidence of an Australian ice age roughly 280 million years ago, as well as over 1,700 Aboriginal artefacts. The glacial pavement at the top of Black Cliff, as well as the meltwater sediments, are recognised as the best record of Permian Age glaciation in Australia. This hike explores the unique environment along this section of Adelaide's coastline, with interpretative signage detailing the area's cultural and geological heritage. The hike initially follows a wheelchair-accessible bitumen path to Black Cliff Lookout, then continues along a boardwalk before following a trail up into the cliffs, where walkers may spot the flowers of Christmas bushes and dryland tea trees. Towards the end, the hike winds around the geological formation known as the Sugarloaf, named for its resemblance to a mass of hard refined sugar. This loop consists of wide, gently undulating walking trails, with bitumen surfaces, compacted natural surfaces, boardwalks and steps, suitable for most fitness levels. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the Boatshed Café car park off Heron Way, Hallett Cove, head north along the bitumen path, passing a 'Hallett Cove Conservation Park' sign and several informative signs shortly ahead. After about 170m, you'll reach a junction in the trail, marked with a 'Sugarloaf' sign. From there, follow the bitumen path straight ahead and continue the Hallett Cove Glacial Circuit (clockwise).....

Find the toilet at the start. Find the Boatshed Cafe at the start. W:boatshedhc.com.au After another 175 m continue straight, to head along Coastal Walking Trail. After another 85 m continue straight, to head along Coastal Walking Trail. After another 165 m continue straight, to head along Coastal Walking Trail.
	After another 60 m come to the "Black Cliff Lookout" (10 m on your left). After another 30 m continue straight, to head along Coastal Walking Trail. After another 285 m continue straight, to head along Coastal Walking Trail.
	The starting point of an optional sidetrip. This little side trip takes you to another viewpoint with great western views, on the other side of Waterfall Creek. There's a bridge. To start this optional side trip continue straight here. On returning from this side trip veer left when you get back to this intersection. Details below. After another 50 m turn sharp right. After another 290 m veer left.
	After another 30 m continue straight.
	After another 305 m continue straight.
	After another 295 m turn left, to head along Coastal Walking Trail.
	After another 180 m come to the end.

This little side trip takes you to another viewpoint with great western views, on the other side of Waterfall Creek. There's a bridge.
