So the more recent 'huts' on the overland track are not really huts at all, it would seem.a small single-story building of simple or crude construction, serving as a poor, rough, or temporary house or shelter.

The verandah at Pelion is such a good place to socialise on a nice evening.
I dislike the dining room at Bert Nichols, I felt like I was in the local school basket ball court.
The platforms are mostly very good at Windy Ridge but they did get rid of a couple to build that huge rangers hut. A couple of more tent platforms at Pelion would be handy.
Had a wonderful view from the platform a fortnight ago, 3 French ladies decided to bathe in a small stream 30 m away. They had no inhibitions so two dirty(in more than one sense) had a good perve

Its funny you mentioned the big log along the bck of the hut. My wife and i were there when they felled it. Later in the evening we wandered down to the hut from our tentsite an had a couple of hours yarning with the arborist and the ranger. For myself, a crowded hut would be about the worst place i could imagine spending a night. They do however open up this area to non hikers witch in the overland tracks case i think is good
