TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Macpac Prophet Event pants

I purchased a Macpac Prophet Event pants a couple weeks ago, so far I'm happy with the pants, first use was a rainy day recently while hiking on the Coastal Walk at the Royal National park. I wore a pair of light merino longs under the event pants. Returning to the train station at Otford, I had a 2 hour wait for the train, so I changed into a new set of clothes, surprised to find how wet I was under the event pants, my merino longs wet through out. It was a 7km walk uphill into Otford, although it was not a hot day. Was surprised to find how wet I was, have not had a similar opportunity to test the pants out in similar conditions, however I have worn them a few times in Sydney on rainy days and remained perfectly dry underneath.

I been reading how important it is to regularly wash and maintain event garments, with warnings on cleaning products to use. But all the products I seen on the shelves are so expensive, is there a cheaper alternative cleaning product I can use, that's a lot cheaper?

I recently purchased a bottle of a Grangers 2 in 1 cleaner proofer. For use when the DWR is exhausted. However for regular washing I wish not to use the granger product as it's expensive.

I been told the earth choice laundry liquid you find at your local supermarket in the clear 1 litre bottles can be used to wash event garments. Is this true? I would like to hear what products you use to wash your event garments.

The laundry liquid is the one on this link,
http://www.naturesorganics.com.au/house ... -liquid-1l

It's very cheap and less harming to the environment. Is it safe to use on event, goretex and reflex garments?

My Macpac Prophet trousers are very versatile, last night I went out nightclubbing in Sydney, was not sure I would get in with my trousers, wanted to see if i could get in, had no problems, the door man looked me over and said your fine, :) if you seen what others where wearing, I'm not surprised I got in, in my much younger days we would never have been allowed to enter with some of the outfits worn around Sydney nightclubs.

Big advantage, if any drinks where spilt on me. I was well behaved, and I didn't spill any drinks.

Would like to wash them, but don't know if any the detergents I have is to harsh on the event fabric, maybe I'm to paranoid, and just use what I have and rinse well. Guys at Macpac store in Sydney says that earth choice detergent is fine to use. It's just that I read online it has bleach in it, and I've read not to use bleach, so I'm not sure if I trust it.

Read the packet when next in the laundry aisle at a supermarket. I used it for years as a general laundry powder, never noticed any indication of bleaching action. And its kind to native plants.

Hi gayet, thanks for responding, I read on some reviews on the earth choice liquid detergent that it has some chemical in it, can't remember what it's called now with bleach in it. I'll see if I can find the reviews,

like you, I to have been using the detergent for years, and I have not noticed any issues with any of my clothes, I thought what the heck, and went ahead and used it, the trousers are in the washing machine now.
