i think nik punctured one when the water partly froze into kinda needles of ice inside....

That was me. It wasn't a fault of the bladder. I detailed it in the post above.

I've got one of these http://sourceoutdoor.com/hydration-solu ... 2-wxp.html in an army sort of configuration that I got from the disposals. So it is green in colour and the hose has a green webbing sheethe around it. I don't like the overly complicated suction mechanism. The lack of a bite valve does make it easy to suck though and it dosn't leak (and probably is less likely to fail in the long run than a bite valve). I like the valve clip that holds the hose on too. Means you can fill it up without the hose attached to the bladder then clip it on whenever you want. The top opening slider seems a little loose like it could come undone accidentally but it hasn't done it yet. Overall it has some nice features but this all adds to the weight of it too and I've just gone back to my MSR dromlite.

Source arn't bad, we have had a few in for some the military work we do and they have out lasted the issued camelbak bladder, some smart refill opions via the hose with out taking the pack out as well. Good value for money.
Nelgene still a good option.

i use home brew kit steriliser - you can get it at kmart cheaply....

how cheap and what is in the "kit"? local home brew shops sell potassium metasorbate for about $4 for a bag that will do about hmmm.... more litres than i would EVER use my water bladder for in its whole life time.

SPOT ON! as in.... sterilising agent sold for home-brewing-kits.... just for cleaning the bladder- not for drinking itself....
