An observation about Tasmania from an OUTSIDER....

Does anyone consider it ironic that the iconic mountain of Tasmania, Cradle Mountain, has two peaks, or one could even say, two heads?

It has a head and a little horn but trust a yank to take the p1ss especially when heads are what your shipboard dunnies are called and a closer obsevation of the Mountain will reveal four distinct peaks

It depends entirely on where you are standing when you're looking a Cradle Mountain. The popular photo of Cradle Mt. is across Dove lake with a view of Little Horn (1356m) and Weindorfers Towers (1459m). In this view you are looking at the northern end of the mountain. The higher points are Smithies Peak (1527m) and Cradle Peak (1545m) which are further south, and then falling away to Benson Peak (1368m) at the southern end. It is about 2.5Km from Benson Peak to Little Horn.

So really the whole mountain has four or five peaks. It is just the one particular view has become iconic and that is the view that gave the mountain its name because it looks like a baby's cradle.

LOL Corvus- when we meet up on a trail sometime, remind me to tell you the story of the time I got held up at gun point on a river in North Georgia....and no, there was no squealling!

And hey- the iconic mountain in Georgia is Stone Mountain, a big rock (really big rock) with the pictures of a bunch of guys that lost a war to keep slavery (among other tihngs) carved into the side of it.
