Pine Tier Lagoon & Surrounds

Hi all,

While not strictly bushwalking I was out in the bush when taking these so I thought I'd post them up anyway! Once again on my annual trout fishing trip to Pine Tier Lagoon I spent a few evenings taking photos in and around the lagoon and its rivers. I have only processed a few so may add a couple more as I process a few more.

More importantly though, did you catch any fish??

Thanks guys. Yes we did catch a few fish, probably a dozen or so over 5 nights, but unfortunately there seems to be a hugh number of small fish this year. One reasonable rainbow was good fun and good eating though!

We used to fish Pine Tier regularly some years ago, and the fish were always small from memory. Once the lake rose significantly overnight & I caught 3 or 4 before breakfast, on the fly fished around the drowned bushes, and released them all due to size. A fishing inspector dropped in for a chat & coffee and I told him of my catch & releases. His response was "Keep anything you catch here, we're trying to reduce the population & increase size." Needless to say I didn't catch anything else for the weekend!!

Yeah the last few years haven't been too bad there but there was a huge number of little ones this year, it must have been a good year for trout last year! But most other years we have regulalry caught one or two around the 350-400+mm mark which isn't too bad for there. Heading back to camp I counted ~35-40 fish in a 100m stretch all hugging the shoreline with the headlamp, most were quite small but there were a few decent ones. Ha always the way isn't it, just when you want to catch them you can't!
