which size mug

G'day , long time lurker making first post. I'm looking for a light wieght cooking set up for a day pack while out hunting , have decided on one of the small gas stoves , most probably be a Kovea ti and was just wondering what would the smallest size mug be in the snow peak range or equivalent level , that would fit the stove and gas cylinder. For longer trips i'm thinking of adding another pot that the complete set would fit into and lid as well. Regards Ron

Depends on what size gas cylinder you intend to use.
A good size mug is the 450ml, but if you intend to use it on the stove, you will find that when it boils it will overflow and extinguish the gas. The next size up is 600ml, and that would be pretty good I think. Google search says its large enough to store both the Ti and the 100g gas cylinder but you would need to make a lid for it. Check out Jason Klass' comments on it here
Also worth looking at the Mini Solo cookset - it will take the 450 inside and a 100g gas cartridge, and be suitable for your longer trips.

I invested in the Optimus weekender set which basically holds the Optimus Crux stove and 230 gram gas cylinder. It is 800 ml capacity and the lid can double as small frying pan. It must be some distant Scottish heritage but I find the 100 grams cylinders rather a rip-off compared to the 230 gram ones. If that is your style check out the Optimus set that is based on the 100 gram cylinder. That looks neat and around $130 including the Optimus Crux lite.
