Bicycle tyre repair kit for Neoair?

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Bicycle tyre repair kit for Neoair?

Postby ReillyDavidson » Thu 24 Jun, 2010 2:30 pm

I'm about to leave overseas in at the end of next week (to Bougainville, PNG) and have been unable to organise getting the Fast and Light repair kit or my NeoAir. Would it be possible to just take a Bicycle tyre repair kit? Does anyone with a Neoair know of a good alternative at short notice (I will also be taking Duct tape)?
Or even better has anyone got a repair kit they could sell to me ASAP.?

I'd take a tube of Seam Grip. Good stuff. Admittedly I have only used it on Goretex etc.

My advice with bicycle repair kits would be to use the French ones, not the Chinese ones. Personal experience says the Frogs know how to make decent repair kits.

Hi,

I haven't had any punctures in my Neo, but small holes could definitely be repaired with the self adhesive puncture repair patches. (I wouldn't bother with the old patches with glue - if they still exist!? - the self adhesive ones are an easy fix. Maybe take a small roll of gaffa tape as a quick fix for any larger holes that might occur. Not ideal, but should work and can potentially serve a number of purposes. Too late unless you already have them but you can get small sections/rolls of gaffa tape from places like Moontrail for a couple of dollars. Enough for any punctures you might get but also light - unlike a normal roll).

Have a good trip!

Cheers,

JB

P.S. Did you try these guys? - http://www.outdoorgearstore.com.au/stor ... medium=cpc

They're Vic-based. Give them a call, they may be able to get a set to you in time.

N.B. Still take some bike tube patches for smaller holes.

I found a fast n light repair kit at the Scout Shop in Adelaide recently.

FWIW I think they'd post one to you if they still have stock.

You're welcome, hope it works out.

For the pack, if its canvas then I would cover it. If its synthetic then I wouldn't bother. The thing about canvas is that as it absorbs water it gets heavier whereas the synthetics don't do much of the absorbing thing. In either case, I would use a pack liner and drybags for essential stuff that needs to be dry no matter what.
