Hi,
I read somewhere that you are allowed fires at one of the camp sites on the SCT? Can anyone confirm this? Was it an old rule? I would be really surprised if you could (would be great though).
Cheers, Ty
Use a fuel stove for cooking. Campfires leave ugly scars, reduce the availability of dead timber as habitat and can escape to start destructive wildfires.
Fires
Wildfires have damaged parts of the Southwest National Park, and campsites have become degraded from the use of campfire. For these reasons the entire Southwest National Park is a Fuel Stove Only Area, as well as the conservation area around Melaleuca. This means that no campfires are permitted, and you will need to carry and use a fuel stove. The only sites where campfires are permitted in the south-west are at designated sites at Surprise and Deadman’s Bay.
