less popular campsites accessible by public transport

Hi,

Wondering about what are some of the quietest spots accessible by public transport in Vic? Planning to go for a slow-paced hike for maybe a week, though settling down in a spot for most of it is also a good option for me. Would need some water supply (have a filter).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks

You can catch a bus from Spencer street in the CBD of Melb. to the Prom on Fridays at about 1 pm.The V/Line to Yarram stops at Fish Creek where you change to a connecting bus service.
Then you can walk around the southern Prom for the weekend (or more than a week as long as you have enough food, not rice, dried veg. and lentils again!). The return bus leaves Tidal River in the afternoon on Sundays.

There is a V/line bus that connects from Wangaratta train station to Mt Beauty. From there you can hike up the fire trails and get onto the Bogong High Plains and Mt Bogong , depending on your route. You'll need the Spatial Vision maps to see what is possible in terms of possible route options. I think there is also a bus from Wang. to Harrietville too which means you can hike up into them thar hills from there too.

The train from Melb. to stony point connects with the French Island ferry. You can walk to the mosquito sanctuary from the Jetty which is also the campsite there.

Plenty of nice spots behind Lorne. Catch the bus to Lorne and walk up the Erskine River track towards Erskine Falls passing Splitter Falls, Straw Falls and a number of other small falls along the way. From here head down Lemonade Track to Cora Lynn Falls. There are walk in camp sites near there. From here you could head down the Saint George River track and visit Margaret and Melba Falls then back to the Cora Lynn Falls campsite for another night. From there head south towards Phantom Falls and then through The Canyon and onto Henderson and Won Wondah Falls and then camp at Allenvale. From memory car camping is allowed here so it might not be the least popular campsite. You might be able to camp along Sharps Rd (4wd track) instead. From here to could day walks to Upper and Lower Kalimna Falls, Cumberland Falls, Winterbrook Falls, Swallow Cave Falls and Sheoak Falls.

Was hoping to find a place I could get to without really anyone there... But I guess a fanciful notion if using public transport

Another option is to post in the 'Find Walking Companions or Arrange Transport' section. You might be able to get a lift with someone to a less popular campsite.

From here you could head down the Saint George River track and visit Margaret and Melba Falls

Not sure if this track still exists. It might only be marked with ribbons.

If you get Public transport to Harrietville I bet you that you will see NOBODY hiking up or down the Bon Accord spur. There is a river crossing at Washington creek so be careful if it has been raining a lot.
