Wi-Fi in national parks

Its not that im against it, but simple economics is the cost of it would be vastly spent better in our poorly funded nat parks

At the end of the day, the mentality here appears to be one of not letting others receive a convenience than personally not needing such a service. Must remember that NPs are supported by us all.

You might be on to something here GPS. It is one thing to walk into the wilderness knowing you have disconnected the umbilical cord, it is entirely another to walk into the wilderness and pretend you are in the wilderness and disconnected from the umbilical cord.(knowing full well the object of addiction is right there).
I really enjoyed SBS's description of the OLT experience - the social experience was very enjoyable each night conversing with people you met on the first night. My 12yo (now 14) still fondly remembers his trip where he met others his own age.
No gadgets anywhere.

This is why I described earlier in the thread about 'shields' we will need places free of signal. Forget about those searching for a signal(they will have it), we will soon be catering for those desperate for an escape!
I'm not an OLT walker, it's not my thing but I have observed the special experience it provides via my business. I've thought deeply about how technology can enhance/detract/advance/attract etc etc

Interesting, given the number of threads discussing the availability of mobile signals on the various tracks. There obviously a need and want by many.

Relax guys, the discussion and consideration was for Canada. With the current budget restraints here, I doubt any of the Australian park services would consider Wifi facility for remote locations. Even if provided, with the remoteness of the various locations, the fee-for-service barrier would significantly restrain the volume of use. LOL

TBH having some reception on the remoter peaks is quite nice - I like knowing how bad the weather will be. There's no need for unnecessary masochism. 

I look forward to 700mhz Next G. We should see some decent improvements in range with the upgrade from 850mhz.

As a person that lives in regional Australia, I can say that many areas of my shire do not have wi-fi (or phone coverage.....), National Parks are a long way from being covered IMHO.

I can only assume that you are one of them there city folk Strider? in rural parts of Australia, a shire is a local government area. I had to google Bilbo though so there are things I don't know too
