Keppel Lookout Marysville

Postby rocketrm2 » Wed 19 Mar, 2014 8:30 pm

Needed to do some hiking fro 2 reasons, my father very recently passed away needed a little hiking therapy help ease the sadness, Second planning to do 140 km of the AAWT in May so need some training. And at the same time revisit Marysville post Black Saturday

Opted to do Keppel & Steavensons Falls about 12 km.
With long climbs and steep down hills it proved a good AAWT pre walk conditioner. Post fire thick undergrowth that ensures you stay on the trail Here and there on the trails some overgrowth but not much of a hassle.
BTW the look out worth the climb.
Pleased with my walk Glenn Tempest's book says 11.8 km 4-5 hours, I was happy to be able to complete it in 2h 20 mins. Adds a bit of confidence for AAWT
Btw plenty of water on the trail.

all in all an excellent day walk.

Sorry to hear about your Dad rocketrm2, I hope the sadness will pass in time but the memories remain yours for good.

You might try the Fraser Park area in Eildon National Park for some hill training. Everything in there seems to be either up or down hill
and the views of the lake and nearby mountains are magnificent. Of course our own Mount Dandenong has some very nice hilly trails to train on as well.

Sorry to hear about you father rocketrm2. Hiking can certainly help clear the mind and I hope in your case it helped ease the sadness.

I have never completed the Keppel Lookout Trail but there are some great walks in and near Marysville. It's also great to see the town coming back to life.

Good luck with AAWT and your training.
