I found this one in the collection on the weekend. It was taken at Silver Falls, Castra late last year.

Found this stinkhorn (aseroe rubra) growing on Mt Victoria.

Recently, in an attempt to learn more about some of the fungi in these photos, I contacted the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG). I received a very detailed response from their honorary scientific associate, which included the following information.

If you don't already know of the Fungimap project (http://www.rbg.vic.gov.au/fungimap_/welcome/) you might find it interesting. It aims to let people with no knowledge of fungi help map the distribution of a hundred species that are recognizable visually. No matter where you are in Australia there will be some of the target species in your area. For example Amanita muscaria, which you photographed is a target species. All that Fungimap asks for is sight records ( not specimens) with some basic locality and habitat information.

I thought a few other bushwalkers might also be interested in the Fungimap Project. It would be cool if bushwalk-Tas member could post photos and locations of target species in this gallery.

taken at the Old Park River crossing on the St. Valentine's Peak Track.

"Dog Vomit Slime Mould" - Yes that looks like it, thanks. Attractive name too.

Well - I wasn't walking as such... I was in my garden today potting up cacti to sell - and I noticed that I have all these odd little cup fungi springing up everywhere. They looked awesome in the afternoon light. No idea what they are - this is the first time I have seen them in my garden. They were accompanied by yellow capped toadstools and a weird orange slimy fungus - no picture, I only noticed it after I stood in it! I can only assume the spores were carried in with the last load of straw I got to mulch my garden. Anyway. Thought I'd share.

I think Ben's orange coral fungus in the frame is a terrific shot with its mossy background.

These are some weird, wonderful and stunning samples of our fungi. I love looking through them - they are magical. I'm glad this isn't a competition, it would be difficult to choose a favourite. Thanks for posting them.
