Have only walked the area during the non winter months and enjoyed it. I have camped at the picnic area and walked over the summit. Also walked in via the old log snigging track to the monument the relates to the 3 RAAF personal who lost their lives in a crash, I think 1940. There is still wreckage in the scrub including an engine located in one of the gullies below the monument.
Access is via Barnewall Plains Road but I think in the winter you can only get to about 2km (locked gate) of the picnic area which is the start of the walk. The following link may assist
