Never really considered a manufacturer specialising in military equipment for bushwalking. The bag is certainly a good price though.
What attracted you to this particular backpack ?

some of the military packs are designed to be used around military waist harnesses which have seperate bags usually for ammo.
the packs are often so short to keep them clear of the waist harness bags, they dont have waist belts. i was watching kiwi soldiers this morning. short packs that stick out a long way from the back, they have to lean forward a lot to keep their centre of gravity central...

Although this item is listed as having a waist belt, Wayno is right. I went out a few weeks ago with mate of mine who is a chocco from way back. He took his Vietnam era pack and suffered for it. They don't make them like they used to... and sometimes... that is a good thing.

To go OT a little bit, the DG1 on that page is the pack worn by Willem Dafoe in the movie 'The Hunter'.

*&%$#! hell. they are built like brick sh*t houses and about as heavy as, never seen a 5 kilo pack before....

Haha! Exactly why I don't carry one! Apparently the DG's are a very comfy pack, but at 4.5kg, it's a bit much for me.

i dont go lightweight but it's three times the weight of my main pack... and double my heaviest one.... and i thought that was pretty robust

Military gear is super strong and reliable and will last forever but the price you pay is extra weight. This applies to all military gear bought for bushwalking. I was going to buy a US Military Cammenga compass but decided not to because of the weight (198.5g, I bought a Suunto MC-2, 74g). However, the Cammenga is almost indestructible like most military equipment.
