World Rangers Day - 31st July

Postby tastrax » Wed 18 Jul, 2012 11:58 am

Hi Folks,

Many forum members are users of National Parks and other wild areas across the globe and I just wanted to highlight that 31st of July each year is day of celebration for Rangers worldwide. World Rangers Day is promoted by the 54 member associations of the International Ranger Federation (IRF), by the Thin Green Line Foundation, and by individuals who support the work of Rangers and the IRF.

Unfortunately it’s also a day for us to reflect on those staff killed in the line of duty and whilst (thankfully) there are very few Australians on the list, the same cannot be said for other areas across the globe.

The Thin Green Line Foundation raises funds to support the families of those Rangers killed whilst on duty and it’s here that I thought a few members may be able to support the cause. The foundation has some events organised (in Melbourne) to raise funds.

If this appeals to you then please take a few minutes to support the cause.

OK - the guitar raffle is actually on again this year so if you would like a custom painted guitar signed by lots of well known muso's then here is your chance. Plus VIP tickets to a Gotye concert

Thanks Peter,

I have met Sean Willmore (the guy who started the Thin Green Line) a couple of times at various events and its amazing what he has achieved on a shoe string budget and heaps of enthusiasm. I have also met a few of the folk in his video at an IRF conference. He certainly deserves support and he is getting it from quite a few high profile people.

I must say that life as a Ranger in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other locations is a LOT different to our easy lives here in Oz.
