Starting from the Belougery Split Rock Carpark off John Renshaw Parkway, Warrumbungle, this walk takes you to the summit of Mount Exmouth and back. Be prepared for the jaw-dropping 360-degree views of the landscape that you'll be rewarded with after conquering the strenuous journey. The 1206 metre high summit lets you see the surrounding peaks along with the magnificent forests of Warrumnungle National Park. If you're here in spring by any chance, you can come across wildflowers such as nodding greenhoods and some other orchid species. Roos (Australian term for kangaroos), wallaroos and wallabies are a common sight here, but you can also spot a koala if you're lucky. You can make this a multi-day walk as there are several campsites along the way. Remember to bring enough water, a hat and sunscreen. Hiking shoes are recommended as there's a considerable amount of loose rock and slippery surfaces. Also keep in mind that there is a vehicle fee you need to pay when entering the national park.
