My wife is looking at getting a new sleeping mat, and she likes the look of the Exped Synmat 7, but she was concerned about the warmth of it in summer.
The R value is 4.9 and is rated down to -17, which would be brilliant in winter, but is it too hot in summer?

I just got the SynMat 7 UL version which has a R value of 3.1, which is reported to be conservative, maybe this would be better if you want to also use it in Summer?
What temperature will you need to take it down to in Winter?

No colder than -5 in winter. I just looked up the UL, and it looks to be exactly what she would want. Only 430gm too

Mats only prevent body heat loss to the ground, they don't act like electric blankets and don't cause any sort of heating at all.
I've used my down mat in summer cos its such a comfy mattress.
Your wife wil love it, my wife does!

I live up in QLD, purchased a Exped Downmat 9 DLX apx 8 weeks ago, which is warmer than the Synmat, so far I have not found any discomfort, A week after purchasing my Exped, I went hiking on Fraser Island, the first couple of days was very hot and humid. I had no problems sleeping. I didn't find it to hot, it was warm but very manageable. I slept very well, Exped Downmats are as comfy if not more comfy than my own bed at home.
A few days at Fraser Island it matched our summer days. I slept with only a sheet on the exped. Had no problems.
