Hi, I have been reading this forum for a little while, as I plan my overland trip for late march. Asking for a bit of help with my itinerary. Am planning seven nights on the track, following the usual hut route. But I am planning on going from Windy ridge hut to pine valley hut on day 6, then pine valley hut to echo point hut on day 7, and echo point hut to the end on day 8, to be at lake st Clair for the 11.45 tassielink bus to Hobart. Will plan on some side trips dependent on weather.
Does this sound reasonable and doable?
I will be using a macpac nautilus tent, older and a bit heavier. Will this be suitable?
And I have a MSR whisperlite stove that will use shellite. I promise to use it outside, and I know how to use it, I promise!!

G'day ossie,
All you have said is doable and enjoyable Tent will do the job just a pity about the whisperlite (it is not light nor does it whisper)

but if that is what you have so be it

Sounds like an ok itinerary ossie. Most dont bother with the lakeside walk but it is nice enough. I'd spend the extra time on the side walks maybe stay at Narcissus and catch the ferry.
Whisperlite is ok, not as noisy as some. If you know how to use it there's no reason not to do so in the huts, maybe show others as you go, you might sleep better at night

Thanks for the info. Will see what the weather does at the time, but I really would like to walk the entire track rather than catch the ferry.
