TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

How to pack MSR Hubba Hubba

Wed 11 Aug, 2010 10:29 pm

Hi,

I have a MSR Hubba Hubba, I'm not really sure the best way to pack it up. Currently I stuff the inner in then the fly then the footprint. I dont roll or anything just stuff it in.

I know a few people have them here so was wondering what you guys do?

Definitely roll it up - to ensure it packs in minimal space.
I do fold the footprint separately and slid it into the bag.
Pegs and poles are often slid down the side rather than rolled in.
Inner is folded and placed on folded outer and then all rolled up.

How do you find that in the rain? Does everything get soaked when you have it all out unfolding it?

Rain - what's that ??

Sorry - I was just describing a typical pack up.
It was packed up a quite recently in rain (and a few other times), but not by me - hence the complete mess and heaps of dirt. Sigh
There was some discussion about the order of putting it up / taking it down in rain here:

However, I think the main thing is to fold the inner up under the shelter of the outer so that only the floor bottom is exposed.
[keeping the inner netting and inside floor dry]
You could then either pack it and slide the rolled outer next to it - or proceed to fold the outer and place the folded inner inside before rolling up.
I just think it takes less room and is probably easier on the fabric than stuffing.

I have a MSR Hubba. I only roll it up at home for storage. When walking I just fold the inner and fly up separately and stuff them into the pack - often to fill up space between other gear. If the fly is wet then I will put it in a stuff sac. The poles just slide down in one of the back corners of the pack. I find this more convenient than rolling it all up first.
