Sew-in D-rings query

Anybody here ever used them?
We have a few and I my machine will sew them I have a use.
Not sure on needle and thread size tho

Top sample, a strap is threaded through there and sewn down; second sample from what I can see is a sew-down type, usually sewn under a running seam, such as found in backpacks.

Yep but what needle size and best thread size?
We got quite a few of these in the load of bits we acquired

Never seen them before. Might have to warm up the needle with a blowtorch. Do you know what the plastic is and how thick the tab is?

Thanks Ted, Id be interested in how these are actually used in production.I've never seen them used in any commercial/adventure outdoor gear. Have you tried sewing them ? If the machine baulks, I would probably drill the tabs.

That Jansport buckle has been inserted and sewn into the seam. That construction, i think,would be intended primarily as an efficiency or speed of production measure, or less likely to give a sleeker look. (I would still prefer a webbing loop that can be sewn in multiple times) . I'm not sure that these buckles are worth it for DIY use on backpacks etc. Would however look cool pop rivetted in random strategic spots on the exterior of your adventure vehicle Ted. Save a few for me.
