Marmot Pinnacle Sleeping Bag

Hi

I just wanted to find out if anyone knows whether the male and female regular sleeping bags can be zipped together? I am leaning towards getting one of each from the US as it could work out cheaper as previously I was thinking of getting the OP Bushlite 700.

Also, on a side note, would you get a synthetic bag (regualr size) for a 6yo as her first sleeping bag which she could also use for school camps over the next (hoping) 10yrs and also not worry too much on her taking care of it?
Thinking on the MH Lamina 25 at Paddy Pallin (i think).

Sleeping bag for your six year old synthetic for sure, can stand multiple washes or dry cleaning and remains reasonably warm when wet .
Down bags are for grown up children well past 16 years of age

Thanks Corvus. Good to know that i can get away with a synthetic. We will be doing camping mainly during autumn and spring in Melbourne first near bushwalking trails so we will be doing daywalks until she is much older and stronger before I think to try hiking with a backpack. Good also for my wife to ease into this.

Any good spots to do this in Tassie? The tent I am looking to get first is Black Wolf Mojave SG4 so too heavy (22kg) to carry so will look at sites to establish camp and walk from there.

My Marmot Pinacle (regular) can be zipped together I think.. The zipping mechanism does look as though it'll do the job.

Oh and I happened to meet a 7 yr old boy at Lake Vera Hut over the weekends. He did Frenchman's Cap over a four day walk with his dad, mom, and sister! O.O

Hi Julafreak. Thanks for the info. I think we will get the Marmot Pinnacle, now just hafta wait for a sale. I think we will also get the Marmot Trestle 15 for mydaughter instead of the MH Lamina 20 as it works out cheaper and i think both are similar in specs.

Wow, 7yo. I was hoping we could do it with my 6yo but i think both my wife and my 6yo will take sometime to get used to camping, but on another of my topics, Petra gave a good suggestion, so I may hire some gear and actually start hiking myself, maybe with MBOC in MOnash Uni while they catch up in experience.

the one planet bag sound like a good option

With One Planet they make a left and right hand version so they can be zip together so most likely in other brands if a left and right hand option exist you can do the same thing. Some whose name escapes me found that while two bags zipped together sounds a great idea it does not work well in the real world as it makes for tricky exiting and entering the bag for calls of nature, etc. Still it would have its upside as well.

Ditto with Marmot. In my opinion, Marmot and Western Mountaineering are the best bags you can buy -- well designed and light.
With the dollar as it is, it's cheaper to get a 850+ loft bag from one of these manufacturers than it is a boxy 650 loft from OP. Unless you're particularly patriotic, you'd be crazy to not go the Pinnacle (or Helium).

Thanks all for your replies. I have bought male and female versions of the Pinnacle and a Trestle 15 for my daughter. Just waiitng for it to arrive.
