I could imagine it might be up near the main carpark at the visitor centre - or the various facilities and buildings nearby - but I did not notice a view like that from my time there.

Getting colder. You were on the right path and closer before. I was on possibly the only high point with that view around here. Not far from a named location, well technically I'm probably on it.

Fairly close by, but no. Eggs' first guess had my route correct, just not the location on it.

Somewhat past the top from memory. A surprising walk, didn't expect to get that view at all. Hence stopped to photograph it (some zoom in it).

The Where's Wally looks like a tent. I can't offer a location though.

Not a tent - and you could see Massif from those tops in view.
