The big ALICE has poor balance for skiing
I just bought a Coleman knock-off at the Op-Shop for $3- because a tadpole may need a pack sometime in the future
also I forgot to mention my travel pack which is one of those cheap Mountain Designs 100 litre ones with the detachable day-pack and my carry-on which is a school lap-top bag and just comes in under the size limit when I take the waist belt off, also my big Lowe bumbag which always has the 10 Essentials in it and swaps form pack to pack

Me again. A few changes this year, offloaded one and gained two!

Overboard 20lt - as day pack and also waterproof
Osprey Stratos 34 - larger day pack and minimalist overnighter
Exped lightning 45l - was enough for winter temps, roomy now for spring!

(still have the Osprey 6lt hip pack but put away until I have a neighbourhood again)

Interesting to see there's no love for the poor old black Wolf brand backpacks. I know some of their gear is lacking and they've considered low end in the range but I've always found their packs sound and well priced.

I have a 50l BW mountain Ash and it's my go-to overnight pack.

Another Black Wolf owner here... In my case, a 65L Mountain Ash.

Not the lightest pack, but it's certainly robust and does the job. Not in a hurry to upgrade it at all.

I normally only keep 2 packs at a time for myself and sell others off when I feel I don't use them or to fund new packs. I don't want a stable of unused 'junk' cluttering up my life.

Had a few over the years, but as I refined my gear and got my weights down, I moved them on - no point keeping multiple packs stashed in a cupboard when someone else can make use of it.

One - blackwolf bugaboo.
Its great for carying heavier loads on long trips, but i need a smaller 45-55L pack for shorter 1-3 day trips. Am considering another blackwolf.

Quechua is ok, they're comfortable, well thought out and inexpensive, but they will last you about 5 years in the bush. Tougher brands like Macpac, Patagonia or Arc'teryx will last you a lifetime usually. I have 3 backpacks : A Macpac Kahu 22, which is the one I use all the time. It's tough and comfortable, for a day hike it's perfect. For snow hiking, ie when I need my snowshoes, I bought a taller and bigger bag, an Arc'teryx Altra 50. Quite comfortable, great pockets, and tough. The last one I have I never use, it's an 80 L Black Diamond backpack, but I don't really do multi day hikes, I should sell it.

I have a Black Wolf B Lite 55 backpack and for the life of me I can't work out what the horizontal zip is for at the top of the main compartment, it opens from the inside and opens into the back mesh area, and has two Velcro loops above it.

I acknowledge I have too many packs and recently more conscious of purchasing habits. Had a read of '09 Beyond leave no trace paper. A real eye opener and has changed my consumer behaviours.

Aarn Load Limo, only done a few trips so far.
Old Load Limo which is pretty well hors de combat but still gets hauled out for certain walks.
Osprey Luna 85, for the longer and harder off-track trips. Not as comfy as the Aarns but tougher.
Aarn Natural Exhilaration (SUCH a stupid name) for daywalks.
S2S ultrasil, for the longer walks where I also want a daypack.

Plus the balance pockets for the Aarns. Plus a 3 - 4 litre thingy for a water bladder that came with the Osprey and can be used either with the pack or separately. Plus another daypack that only gets used for shopping and urban things like that.

There's nothing unusual about having that many, is there?

1 White Mountain 65 litre - very comfortable pack and cost just over $100 on special. Drove across town to Heidelberg In Melbourne to purchase it. White Mountain have excellent pack fitting instructions online and the shop will bend the stays to suit you if you find any spots that rub.

3 Aarn packs (1 Natural Balance + balance pockets, 1 Effortless Rhythm + sports balance pockets and 1 Natural Exhilaration daypack + compact balance pockets).

1 North Face day pack - 15 years old but hardly used

Two Aldi day packs - very well used.
