New to hammocks

Hi all,

I recently picked up a ENO Singlenest, Eno Guardian SL and an ENO FastFly Sil. I'm using climbing webbing to hang it all.

I'm now debating adding a Warbonnet 3-Season Yeti Underquilt to the setup, to use with my Kathmandu Globetrotter as a top quilt. Then I saw this from RevHiker;

Since the Kathmandu Globetrotter has a square fotbox that can be unzipped to leave a hole, effectively I could slide the bag over the hammock prior to hanging and have a serviceable top and bottom quilt set up.

Have any of you used this type of setup?
Would this be a serviceable 3 season setup for NSW? I can (and do) add layers appropriately to mitigate the lightness of the bag, I also sleep warm.
Can you foresee any serious problems (footbox draft and hood draft excluded, I will experiment with workarounds)?

Do-able...but fiddle factor in a real life bush setting might be its downfall.
A intergrated bugnet would make setups easier too, like these,

The insulation needs to touching the underside of the hammock to work effectively.

But give it a go at home/close to home 1st, work with what you have & suck it & see.

The problem with using a bag over your hammock like that is your ability to get on the diagonal and sleep comfortably is dramatically reduced.

Forgot about the diagonal issue, as I'm using a hybrid bridge hammock.
As Simon says.....That'll be the main issue, especially fellas like us with back problems.
Wincing just thinking about the pain returning.

They're no longer made, but I'm having a go at making a couple for myself...
..a Troppo version for up north & a Temperate for Tassie. Already have the
Sub tropical 3season model. Just waiting on materials.

Seen your site mate, always thought you took good pix.
I always thought a Hybrid was a bridge at one end and gathered at the foot, my mistake.
I'm having a go at my first hammock soon but that will be a simple gathered end for hanging in the front yard under the tree

Hybrid of sorts...mine has a speader bar the head end so there's no shoulder squeeze & the footbox drops below the suspension
(where it differs from a gathered end) so there's minimal knee hyper-extension & a pretty flat lay.

Anyway, goodluck with your 1st DIY hammock...sounds like that shady tree in the front yard has your name on it.

Love those shots.

They really convey one of the main reasons I love to hammock - because you can camp nearly anyway and in lots of places that a tent can't go.

The second thing to love about hammocking is that you can keep cool enough to sleep on very hot and humid nights.
