Not the best photo due to spray on the lens, but this was an interesting creek crossing coming down the Western Creek Track.

HI i've been up there in June by then the creek had a bit less water, but it is a nice trip up to ironstone. Is there a formed track or some markers from Lake nameless to Ironstone or you just find your way?

You just find your way from Nameless to Lake Ironstone - it is very open walking and does not take long (even when you are walking through knee deep snow). From Nameless we just headed to the southern end of the ridge that you can see from Nameless and has Ironstone on the above side. You then skirt the ridge, walk along Lake Ironstone, up to the saddle, and then down the vally to Wadley's Hut.

I miss that country. Haven't been in that track since Winter 2005. The same day as we left a lady went missing up there and was never seen again, we thought we had seen her footprints. An 'artic' blast rip through the state at the same time, snow at sea level. You couldn't see any lakes under the snow. Unfortunately our camera died in the freezing cold after one hour, your photos are a nice reminder

Spectacular place - terrific photos. I love the one of Lake Ironstone, it has an eerie beauty. Sounds like you had a great trip.

Ahh that would be Whitelys Hut, Wadleys is a few days walk away over in Lees Paddocks

Nice pics, good to see some snow up there. Lake Ironstone certainly looks a bit different to when I was there in the summer, was tempted to have a swim at the time.

sthughes you are absolutely correct - perhaps a Freudian Slip requiring a trip back to Lees Paddocks and then through to Kia Ora.
