Overland Track Gear List (Dec or Feb)

I'm coming over from WA to do The Overland and some other bushwalking in Tassie in December or February (dependant on xmas work schedule) and would like you locals or people who have done the track before to give my gear list a look over http://lighterpack.com/r/9d8ebd. The only thing I'm slightly worried about with my current list is if the weather is forecast as warm/very warm, shorts might be in order in that case. What are your thoughts? Cheers

One thing that jumped out is the gas bottle. I think you might need two of them or one big one. From memory, a 211g bottle generally lasts me 4 days. That includes a coffee in the morning, a daily hot chocolate and the evening hot meal.

That said, YMMV (your mileage may vary)

I like your list. Your tent will need some pegs and some platform hooks may be a benefit.

Your food per day looks a bit light on but Im guessing thats subject to change yet.

Maps, compass? (no navigation required but I couldn't go for a walk without it) First aid kit? Personal hygiene? Your loo paper might be a bit light on too, better to have a bit too much rather than using foliage

Yeah more fuel! Your food must be freeze dried/dehydrated to be that light- so more cooking & therefore more fuel. I think I'd take a bit more food too
Did you have some sort of camp shoe- like crocs to wear at the end of the day around camp/the huts?
Some sort of packtowel/chux?
sunscreen, bug repellant ?
Alcohol hand gel?
Cards/book some sort of entertainment maybe?
Gaiters?

Pretty much will be all dehydrated food, bit of a mix of homemade and either Backcountry Cuisine or Outdoor Gourmet Company (anybody given the OGC ones a go?) so will definitely add an extra/larger canister. I'm in the process too of counting calories out so I should have an idea soon of exact daily weight for food.

Added the suncream, alcohol gel under misc, the first aid kit and pack towel were already there. My mate has the cards in his pack (we're bringing a card version of Monopoly, infinitely more fun and less repetitive).

I was figuring I'd just wear socks inside the huts and leave my trail runners on around camp? they're comfy enough to wear 0600-2100 every day. Not going to bother with gaiters either, long pants and trail runners and if they get damp they dry quickly (will grab gaiters if its warm enough for shorts for some scratch protection).

Edit: anyone got any preference for the Overland for MSR Groundhog style pegs or Ti Nail style ones?

Cup hooks? I'm assuming you're both referring to a tent peg style? Any idea where to get some lightweight rain gloves? I know Mountain Laurel Designs makes eVent its but sourcing something would be ideal.

Cup hooks. The things you buy from hardware store. To screw into the wooden platform so you can secure your guy lines. The platforms have cables and nails, but sometimes they are not always in the right spot. Remember to remove them everyday though!

That makes complete sense on the cup hooks now, what length do you normal use or find ideal? The Extremities Mitts look pretty good too.

Im not sure about whats "ideal" but probably anything that is easy to get in and out with potentially freezing hands I use these...
