So Ricoh GR and hassleblad 500 CM are DSLR's?

Even so, the majority are DSLR, but the sample size is low. Mirrorless is the new kid on the block, it will take years for it to gain a foothold in analysis like this. Pro's don't swap systems like joe public.

it was just a generalised statement, theres two olympus micro four thirds in there which shows they can foot it with the full frames, there was a national geographic photo exhibition in town and a lot of the photos were taken on enthusiast APS C SLRs.

Well, technically the 500cm is a SLR, and if you stick a digital back on it, I guess that would make it a DSLR... :D

Note 'mostly' in the title. Otherwise, the reason is obvious for the range of lenses and accessories offered with dSLR systems. There's still a way to go with mirrorless systems. Also, viewing through an optical viewfinder is still a pleasure that many pros won't want to miss.

Sure. The headline is written as pro DSLR. It could be written pro mirrorless given that a mirrorless has snuck into the awards.

However, the best solution is to report on the photography not the devices used.

i found it interesting that amongst all the slrs some non slrs managed to establish themselves by grabbing awards , so you dont need an slr to take top quality photos like slrs take

I agree, it's a pretty irrelevant article apart from the fact it got written and presented.

Nothing special with the presence of mirrorless etc given that even an iPhone can take brilliant shots and then all the brilliant images on Instagram where IQ is an antithesis.

Per Photohiker, it was just a logical sequence of discussion points in this thread. Wayno, thanks for posting the linked article, which provided the impetus to the discussion. Your opening post with just a link left the direction of subsequent discussions wide open. Relax and that's what forums are about.

Or just use the ignore feature and enjoy the forums.

Thanks for your opening post.

I went from M4/3 to playing on borrowed DSLRs(my camera broke) and hated it, focus peaking though an EVF is awesome but I am just a hack.

I now have a Ricoh GR which has the most God awful manual focus system in the world and a ricoh GXR with a Leica M mount and the focus peaking on that is pretty nasty, I may get an EVF for it but I really should have bought a proper DSLR instead of two pretty pointless hipster cameras.

Sony focus peaking is pretty magnificent. The only thing I'd like to change is making it more sensitive when zoomed in.

I haven't played with the Sony stuff at all, after a warranty drama with Panasonic I will be looking for another brand.

I don't think this breaking any rules, my brother used to get some pretty decent shots but due to having a pretty rubbish body now has trouble holding his cameras- https://www.flickr.com/photos/gavhamilt ... 820890036/

olympus's are amazing, i wouldnt go back to a dslr after getting the em5 m4/3. the camera itself functions as good as an slr. the photo quality is pretty comparable to all but the best slr's

I'd expect that that majority of Pro, Semi-pro and so called 'pro-sumers' will stick with SLR's for a while yet - the main reason being that you tend to buy into a system. Switching systems will generally mean a new body plus a decent investment in quality lenses, filters etc. I recently looked at the Fuji Xt-1 pretty closely but to switch over and buy all the decent glass I'd want would cost somewhere near $5k. No big deal for some but since I already have significant investment in my nikon gear I chose to stick with it for now.

Yup. And your upgrade path will tend to remain with one brand if you've invested heavily in lenses. Canon is still he biggest seller of slr cameras for this reason despite other brands overtaking them in camera quality
