TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Can you put a 2400 ml pot safely on a Kovea butane stove, or would it be too top heavy?

No idea, but you could always construct a diy wind shield out of those silver bbq plate things to fit perfectly under the pot to give support.. except you'll probably want to give it a few air holes. Maybe be worth a try for a few dollars and half an hour.

Trial and error. I have one billy/pot that is very wide but may not be 2400ml, possibly 1500ml, and a smaller one about 1 litre but narrower and taller. Both work fine with my Kovea butane stove. You always need to be careful anyway because they're generally a bit top heavy even with a small pot. I've never found it a major drama, just due care and attention needed. And make sure it's level as possible. I usually put a small craftwood base underneath the gas canister.

My understanding is wind shields such as this are dangerous as the canister can overheat and potentially explode.

A lot of stability would depend on the width and height of the canister as well I would imagine

I always use a wind shield with my Kovea. I just keep a an eye on the warmth of the cannister.
I only use a mug or a small pot. If I am going to be doing a lot of cooking I will open the wind shield wider than if just boiling water in my mug.

I tested a kovea titanium stove on a standard bottle with a 16cm ultralight stainless steel billy, and it was definitely too unstable. I ended up going with a Moonwalker Stove instead.
Thanks all!
