Just got myself a sewing machine and thought I would give it a run.
I got some cuben from Simon at Tier Gear and fashioned this over the last day or two. The plan is that in rain you can have the tent door open and have a nice bit of room to sit and cook etc. It just ties onto the tents guy points and then three pegs will be needed to hold the from out. It will never be a high wind set up but I had it up yesterday on the deck in about 15knots with no issues. Will have to get some tape to reinforce the seam but it actually sewed ok.
I have a carbon pole from z-packs on order which will replace the wooden pole!
Hopefully the whole thing should be under 200gm

I have been thinking of something similar although the only real difference would be in making it asymmetrical, with one side extension going much closer to ground level. Less wind resistance certainly, but more protection if the long side is placed facing wind direction. And if both ends (tent end and pole end) were the same, the whole thing could be set up with the long side on either side of the door, allowing for wind direction change without needing to turn tent around.... Use a walking pole or handy tree instead of taking another pole and the weight burden drops a bit more.

The only thing I would be mindful of is the guy rope attachment points on the tent are pulling back over themselves which will put force on the stitching in a way it is not designed for. It may become a problem in stronger winds so keep an eye on it.

yeah I might sew a bit of reinforcing in the guy points to accommodate this loading but it will be pulled down is it blows too hard.

Just use longer cord and take a lot of the load back down to the ground, means the added mass of pegs and guys tho. This is what i do with my Megamid and my Moss Pentawing fly, but obviously that is a lot more weight
