Hi all, I have embarked on a project to build a TOTO kayak. I was recently touring in the middle east and saw a fully kitted guy pulling a perfect (to me) kayak from the Mediterranean and after a short conversation with the owner ascertained that he had built it himself and it was a TOTO. The plans have been ordered from the US and I am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I was wondering if there is anyone here with previous experience with some dos and don'ts.

Sounds like an interesting project. If you haven't already might be worth also posting on
seakayakforum.com.
And the
Paddle to Seattle doco might be of interest. Its about a couple of guys that built there own kayaks and paddled from Alaska to Seattle through the Inside Passage. There is some early kayak construction footage in the video.

I built a stitch and glue canoe a while back, it's a pretty simple process. Just take your time. Cutting out the panels accurately makes it easier down the track.
I got most of my supplies from
http://boatcraft.com.au/, and found them very helpful. Jem watercraft
http://www.jemwatercraft.com/ also has some good information, which is where I got the plans for the canoe.
Like DaveB I also have the Cirrus plans and will get to that eventually.
Good luck.

Anything, and I mean anything you could possibly want to know about building an S&G or strip built kayak can be found on the kayak building forum bulletin board
http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgiIt has been going for well over a decade and if you have a question the answer is there. I have made several strip built and skin on frame boats with their help
cheers
