Lil' red tarp.......

Had a go at making a tarp & undercover to suit my Tarseer hammock.....

Learnings......Damn, that sil-nylon is a slippery sucker ! Pin it & then pin it some more.
......Take your time & don't get all exited & rush when your nearing completion.
......Details, it's all in those little details.

Makes you appreciate what actually goes into making a tarp.......and mine was a straight sided easy design !
Challenging & fun.

Backyard trials.....sealed the seams with spray on silicon, let it dry, then squirted it with the garden hose.
No leaks...looks promising.




Then....to the bush, for some real testing.

What's the underquilt fabric?

HitchHiking...... I was looking at your Exploring tarp long & hard, but decided to have a go myself first.

Moondog55....the undercover material is a 30d polyurethane coated ripstop, I only had a small piece so
i used that up. It's feels a heavier material but is easier to work with than the 30d sil-nylon I used on the tarp.

The red sil-nylon was wide enough so that I didn't have to put in a ridgeline seam, I didn't trust my newly acquired sewing machine skills ,
so ended up with 2 seams, one on either on the side instead. Might add a couple of end covers to stop the wind & rain coming in from the ends....

May change the corner tie-out design & have a go at catenary curves next time.

self tensioning tie outs....still getting used to these.



and a ridgeline organizer....Took the weight of a full water bottle, off the ridgeline & placed it on the spreader bar.
Dimensions too small at the moment, need to make a larger one to suit the headlamp & the length of the gatorade bottle,
which I use if I get thirsty during the night.



It's a good feeling having a 'customised' home away from home.

Last round of testing.....
Pitter patter of rain in the wee hours in the morning, gradually getting heavier.....me alert with headlamp on checking for leaks, all was fine.
Content that my handi-work wasn't going to let me down......I thumbed my nose at the weather & went straight back too snoring,
wrapped in warm downy goodness.....





Pack cover, ticked off my DIY projects list......
