Gheerulla Falls and Beyond (some pics)

Postby Giddy_up » Fri 05 Apr, 2013 2:01 pm

Just finished this walk with my 7 year old son. Had a ball out there and we had some lovely weather as well.

Thanks hunsta, I think the full circuit is closer to 32km from memory. We walked in from Mapleton Falls and then camped at Ubajee and then Thilba Thaba and made our exit on Sam Kelly Rd, that was 23km. We met some others who had walked down the north side and the flood damage was pretty bad but nothing that would stop you or cause difficulty. The hard part is the 420m very steep gain up to Thilba Thaba, its brutal. There are some nice caves on this section and some aboriginal art work there as well which is very nice, you just have to slide around the escarpment from the caves a bit. Enjoy your walk.

Sounds great mate. We are going in from the Sam Kelly rd end and then coming back along the Delicia rd side of the track. Would love to do the whole walk, but getting all the days in a row to do it is hard for me. Will post my pics when I have some. Just hope the rain eases a little for Sunday.

Yeah Giddy_up we had a great walk. As I said we started our walk from the Sam Kelly road end and went straight up the Gheerulla Bluff first. Brutal is one word Id use, but I reckon it was better getting it over first then doing in down hill with jelly legs. From there it was Thilba Thalba WC then onto Delicia road and down to the falls. From there it was basically all along the creek valley floor, and back to the start point of Sam Kelly road. I think I could probably match nearly everyone of your pics.

Well done, 430m near vertical does get the heart rate up that's for sure. Nice pics as well, I really like that area around Gheerulla Bluff.
