Mt. Wellington

Gday all, I went for a little wander up to the summit of Mt. Wellington today, it was very beautiful and nice and cool which was good! Anyway here are a few of the photos I managed to get.

I would've thought the gates were closed yesterday? You could ski down that road, well cross country at least

Thanks Guys for your comments. Nick the gates were closed, but they did open them up to the springs mid morning, I caught a bus to strickland ave/huon rd and walked up from there, there were a few skiers earlier but they started to clear the road above the springs in the afternoon, I would think the road would be open all the way up by now.
CP unfortunatly I don't have a 4WD, those aren't my tracks in the snow they are from council workers, as apparently some people working in the tower had been trapped for a day!

Great photos as usual Michael. I looked at the weather observations for Tassie at lunchtime yesterday and noticed a bushwalkers weather alert for snow down to 300 metres just about everywhere. The thought of snow on Mt Wellington at ~1200 m crossed my mind! Looks like a walk for thermals and goretex jackets .

Thanks John, the snow wasn't actually that deep up on top as it was very windy (much more than what the BoM site indicated I would think as it was hard to stand in open spots up top, so a bit more than the 40kms/hr or so they indicated I reakon) although there were large drifts in the lea of bushes/rocks etc the first few of which I stumbled into as I couldnt see them!! Some people think I'm mad and probably rightly so! but I never wear trousers/thermals only ever shorts and rarely a jacket either
