Yes, I know all you guys first visited there in a pram but, hey, I'm from the mainland and didn't see it till I was around 50. Got a reasonable shot at the time and have been back twice but always wanted to pick the right time, on my own, and get stuck into photography. The opportunity came up with a small window last November. I was running a day late after having tarried at Hamilton too long but I guessed from the BOM that I would get a morning in with reasonable weather, and so it turned out.
I parked the motorhome at the turnoff to Cradle Mountain because it was around midnight and awoke a little later than I'd hoped for but, in hindsight, it was absolutely spot on.
After I shared Dove Lake with a couple of other photographers I moved on to Lake Lilla, Possum Pool and Crater Lake. As I turned to head back up to Possum Peak from Crater the lighting was just what I'd dreamed about. Had to be happy with that.
So I climbed again up to Marion Peak as the sun lit the whole of Crater Lake. It was a special time that I had all to myself and I sat atop Marion for about 20 minutes reflecting on my fortune as the first of the day's walkers started reaching my position.
The climb down from Marion surprised me a bit with its steepness but nothing could detract from what a wonderful morning I'd had with my camera.

Very nice iandsmith. I'm surprised when I talk to people, how many only do the Dove Lake circuit. The Lake Lilla - Crater Lake circuit is well worth the effort. Early morning (or late afternoon) is always best.
