Snow shoe trip along the Kerries (Caution lots of pics)

Postby Tony » Tue 15 Sep, 2009 8:51 pm

We started at Munyang Power Station, snowshoed up Disappointment Ridge along the Kerries to Mawsons Hut and return, the winds where gail force on the ridge tops, we had trouble standing some times, our tents handled the strong winds quite well.

Sorry to see you had such crappy weather.
So you'll be entering the Australia photo comp then?

Hi Adam,

The weather looks good in the photo’s but they do not show the strength of the wind, we originally planned to walk along the top of Kerries Ridge but found this was very difficult, so we chose a lower more sheltered route which was still difficult at times, some of the wind gusts knocked us over.

Yes when they open for September.

Hi Brett,

Brett wrote:Blue skies and firm snow. Um? Must not be in Tassie  Great looking pictures and fun day walking by the sounds of it.

Cheers Brett

It was a couple of fun days, the snow was firm but it was softening fast. I enjoyed trying out for the first time using shoes (water proof Keens) with snow shoes and trying out my modified three season tent in the strong winds, I was happy with the performance of both.
