Cuckoo Falls

Another pleasant short walk.

The falls are only a short trip from Scottsdale via a well kept gravel road. (From Tasman Hwy, take Cuckoo Rd 2.4K to Tongonah Rd., Tongonah Rd. 0.8Km to Falls Rd., Falls Rd. 5.1 Km to Carpark). The Falls are on the Hogarth Rivulet in the northeast corner of the Mt. Maurice Reserve.

There is a picnic table and barbeque at the car park, but no toilet. The sign says three hours return, but a fast, fit walker could manage it in less than two. The track is a constant uphill gradient from the carpark to the falls. The walking track is easy to follow and a good track for the first two-thirds. There is even some new boardwalk at the first river crossing. There are a few fallen trees to negotiate. About two-thirds in you'll come to a manfern lined creek bed and the track is rougher from here on in, but still a reasonable track (the 30 odd metre after this creek, and the last little bit at the falls are the worst of it). The falls are taller than they look.

Yes Michael, it is a very nice fall. I didn't really capture it. The only clear view I could get was right at the base. In hind sight I should have climbed the opposite bank for a better view of the top fall. Maybe next time! The nice thing was the stray sun ray that provided a spot-light on the top fall and the bush above it, just as I lined up this shot. :)
