From the kitchen window - No 1 (many pics)

Tue 01 Jan, 2013 4:37 pm

These are a few (?) pictures taken through our kitchen window.
A year or so back after spending 20+ years gazing at this site each and all day I decided I'd take a photo every morning of our great Mt Roland.
They were taken as is, through a double glazed window and if it was grubby then so be it.
It graduated to any time of the day so here goes.
I realise there are many pics, so hope it doesn't break anything - rules included.

Majority on a Canon G12, a couple on an Olympus EM 5

It stands out better in some than others.
One thing I cannot figure though, is it male or female?

Great pics by the way.

Isn't that great! Everyday a delight. Thanks for sharing, seeing the various guises of the same view is really pleasing. I might try the same!

Thanks Corvus
I grew up knowing that as 'The Niggers Head'. It was never in a demeaning way and I don't ever think it was meant as a such.
I trust it is not offensive to mention that here. Where we came from the natives (of that place) were quite OK with that. But that was a day or two±² back.

a few more before I get to the top.

Thanks for sharing Taswegian.
I enjoy the rock from any perspective and look at its changing moods daily.
Not quite as up close and personal though.
Thanks again.. :-)

I hope you don't mind but heres another from a different perspective, quite some ways away from our place.
If you look close on the eastern end you can see the wind blowing the snow. August 2012

I see this Mountain almost every time I drive south down William Street Devonport and love how it changes with the seasons :)
Must head up there again soon.

I like to think with all due respect to the dead that it is a good likeness of Truganini .

Another year passes gazing each day at this gorgeous view.
Not much snow this year, but just lately the sky has put on some stunning displays.
I can only gaze in awe on such a majestic sight.

taswegian has the hay been fed, and if so when does the bailing start again. The smell of fresh hay is nearly as good as rain on parched cultivation.

Not much hay just yet, but a fair amount of silage.
Yes, that scent is so nice.
Well to some. Others it brings on the miseries as hay fever kicks in.
I have to agree on the smell of rain on parched soil. It must have a two fold effect on those caught up in the miseries of drought.
Corvus who wouldn't boast about Roland.

Believe it or not some tourists arrive in Sheffield and ask "Is that Cradle Mt?"

You sure have a great view.. some very nice images. You must be tempted to roll in an old cart, set the foreground up a bit.. : ) It was indeed a beautiful sunset last night.

Lovely! Roland is a nice chunk of rock.

Of course the pedant in me wants you to set up the same framing and stitch them together as a timelapse

Yes I have thought of a timelapse style presentation for my own benefit and view it on a big screen. It is a work yet to be done.
I literally have many hundreds of images at various times of the day/ year taken over the past 28 years I've lived here at this place.

I played with my phone and timelapsed some images of Roland.
I am wanting to setup the Olympus and test that time lapse.
It really is amazing how quickly and how dramatically light and clouds change.
Last night the light faded and the sky turned many shades of grey and I packed up and posted the 'last' for the day when suddenly the whole area just came alive in a deep red glow. It was just so impressive.
And like Nuts said it was a very beautiful sunset.
It lingered long after it turned dark.
