Mount Mueller

Went for a trip to Mount Mueller in the central south west today. Snow cover was surprisingly low with extended snow sections as low as the 900m mark. Fossil lake hid some of its devastation with a seasonally high water mark. The track was indistinct from here on because of snow cover but no real problems were encountered. As we began the ridge traverse a very stiff wind was blowing and the southern side was completely free of snow. The northern side was covered in anywhere from knee to thigh deep snowfalls making boulder sections awkward. Despite large thick sections the snow was quite patchy with plenty of bare sections. Navigation was no trouble on the defined ridgeline in low visibility. On the descent we got minimal views back towards the Maydena Range and arrived back at the car within 5hrs 30mins.

Yeah, nice walking out there. Pity we didn't get to see it.

Ah it wasn't unpleasant on the ridge - the wind wasn't as bad as I thought it may be. I'll go back on a nicer day for sure though
