Part 2 – Melaleuca to Wilson Bight.

Wilson Bight is an easy (for experienced walkers) 2 days from Melaleuca on a well-defined track. There are several other beautiful beaches on the way – New Harbour, Hidden Bay, Ketchem Bay - all lovely to stay at but I’d been out to SW Cape before in 2008 and spent plenty of time enjoying and photographing these southern beaches so I didn’t linger long on this trip. I may make last year’s images the subject of a separate gallery – SW Cape 2008.

With wilderness landscapes I usually try to keep the scene free of any signs of human activity. On beaches that can take a bit of thought and planning - first of all trying to avoid walking in any areas I plan to photograph, or if there's no choice, walking at the waterline so the waves wash away footprints, or walking in creeks, or keeping to the rocks. I find that bootmarks, footprints, people, tents, etc generally detract from wilderness landscapes. The SW Cape circuit was great, not much traffic so each beach was pristine when I arrived. There is a walkers log book at Murgab creek camp at Noyhener beach, I checked it when I arrived - the last entry was more than 2 weeks old... bliss
