AAWT website

[Lophophaps]

I was looking for information on the AAWT and found this https://aawt.net.au/ It seems to be mostly empty. The limited information made me smile - the AAWT goes over Mount Willis and the Thompson Rivers (plural) and through the "Viking/Razor Wilderness". Does anyone know who published this and if there are any notes?

Google maps show the Stronachs campsite.

the AAWT is marked in red circles. My recollection is that the campsite was on the Thomson Valley Road, close to a creek, either the yellow box or the blue circle. Can anyone advise if Stronachs campsite was on the Thomson Valley Road, and if so, where?

From what I can remember Lophophaps the blue circle is the 'official' camp, although it is a little hard to be sure from the aerial photo. The official camp is around 50 to 100 metres east along Thomson Valley Road from the spot where the AAWT emerges from the scrub (heading north) - it's on the north side of the road. There is actually a camp site that I've always thought looks a little better as it is around 100 metres before the AAWT hits the road - although I'm not sure on the exact 'legality' of that spot.

Also, the AAWT leaves the Thomson Valley Road heading north on the corner a couple of hundred metres to the north of where it emerges onto the road now.

I'm hoping to head up there in the next month to do a snow walk from there down to O'Sheas - providing we get some time off for good behaviour

Kev, thanks. it is a bit hard to identify from the picture. If the campsite is as shown on the picture it is a better location, less traffic. If you do not get time off for good behaviour there's an appeal process, but the courts have a backlog.

Baeng72, I have not heard about Brendan Barnes. He has a website https://brenbarnes.com.au/ and seems to be fairly active.

John Chapman has no advice about a new location.

Seems to be much more of an outdoor type than an occasional weekend-warrior like myself.

Google maps position of Stronachs is pretty close, about 100m SW of TV road and is signed as the 'official' campsite for AAWT walkers. There is another campsite at the blue circle but it's signed as a no camping area. I think the idea is to discourage camping near the waterways within the catchment.

Thanks. I'm hopeful that Parks Victoria do not enforce No camping with guns, and if so they are bad shots. It looks like the route north on the road for a short way then continuing north to where the AAWT meets a track from the west avoids a loop to the east. About 250 metres from the start of the road walk at a left bend there's a faint track going north through the logging coupes.

These damn sharks are everywhere! Maybe they can clean up the feral horses. To avoid the sharks, this is where I stay on overnight remote ski trips on the Bogong High Plains. The dwelling comes in a small pack, just add warm water and stand back.
