This is a place to share fair and systematic reviews of gear. Share the good, bad and ugly as well as including how you tested it and reviewed the gear. This is not the place to carry on about a bit of gear that failed, sometimes good gear has a lemon - this is more about systematic reviews. Although this can be a way to help gear manufactures with feedback, this is not the place to hassle them or ask for money back.

Mountain Designs women’s Springbrook rain jacket

I picked up one of these earlier in the year on sale for $60, thinking for that price it didn’t matter if the jacket didn’t perform or last long.

Been pleasantly surprised so far. Kept me nice and dry on the GOW recently and the pit zips worked a treat.

No chest pocket or internal pocket which almost stopped me buying the jacket. One feature I do like, however are the several Velcro tabs adjacent to the zip plus a snap button at the bottom. Using these I can quickly do up the jacket prior to putting the pack on - ensures the jacket stays in place - and then easily undo if necessary without having to fiddle with the zipper around a hip belt.

The pocket openings are a tiny bit smaller than I’d like, getting my phone in and out was a tiny bit awkward occasionally. It’s an iPhone XS(?) so not overly big.

Hood has a small peak which is not stiffened, I still wore a cap underneath. The hood was comfy and not annoying.

No signs of abrasion from the pack. Overall I’m pretty happy so far.
