Overnight walks in NZ - South Island

Postby bogholesbuckethats » Tue 06 Mar, 2018 10:55 am

Spent a couple of weeks on the South Island back in November. We had planned to do the Gillespie Pass Circuit but that was cancelled thanks to some spring snow and swollen rivers.

Instead we did a couple of overnighters that I would recommend to anyone looking for a taste of tramping in NZ.

Information on these walks can be found here.

French Ridge Hut https://bogholesandbuckethats.com/2017/11/17/french-ridge-hut/

Cheers

Was out that way in Nov... can confirm the rivers were up :D. A few people had some difficulties (foreigners and locals).
Snow was confined to the higher parts though.

Good to know that we didn't cancel for no reason. On the plus side it's an excellent excuse to get back there and try again.

Always love to see reports of French Ridge.
I have such fond memories of that one.
