Rees-Dart TrackHide details..
02 February 2018: Rees Dart Circuit partly closed
Due to storm damage to the lower Snowy Creek bridge near Dart Hut, trampers are unable to walk the Rees Dart Circuit until further notice. The lower Snowy Creek bridge is closed as it might collapse at any time after the foundations were washed out.

This bridge connects the Dart Track and Dart Hut with Dart camp site, the Rees Track and the Cascade Saddle Route.

Available options are:

In and out of the Dart Track, including staying at Dart Hut.
In and out of the Rees Track or combine the Cascade Saddle Route with the Rees Track and stay at Dart camp site, but NOT at Dart Hut. A tent must be carried. Trampers have to be mindful of the Rees road closure (updates on QLDC website) and the extended walking distance and time this incurs.
31 January 2018: Dart Valley - Bridge damaged
The bridge over Spaniard Creek on Surveyor's Flat has been damaged and closed to the public. The Creek needs to be forded and extreme care is required.

Can anyone give any advice on the Rees Valley road closure? I can't find a whole lot of information on the QLDC website except this fairly unhelpful twitter post: https://twitter.com/QueenstownLakes/sta ... 8626984961
How far back down the road is this washout? ta

Isn't the closure where the Oxburn Hydro Station is situated?
About 3kms in from the Paradise Road.

Sorry, maybe I'm stupid, but that page lists scheduled roads closed for events and mentions that it doesn't include roads closed due to weather or unscheduled events??

Yes, you're right, that's for scheduled closures only. The Rees isn't on it.

So the hydro station is what is referenced by "the Oxburn" on the twitter post? Would that be here?

I'm just trying to figure out roughly how much further we would have to walk from Muddy Ck and what the car parking options here might be.

That's where it is.
It's about 4kms to Muddy Creek from the washout, which in the scheme of things isn't TOO bad.
Also remember, the Dart bridge, near Dart Hut is out as well.

Yep, thanks. Planning to do the Cascade Saddle route. It's already a relatively big last day, so might just need to account for an extra night. Which isn't a big deal. Planning to use a car relocation service, so hopefully there is somewhere ok to leave the car at that end.

Any suggestions for a 3-5 day wet weather alternative in this general vicinity? We'll have accomodation still booked on either side so can't go too far afield.

The only walk close by that springs to mind is the Greenstone/Caples (4 days/3 nights).
3 days/2 nights is very doable as well.
You can leave a car in the Greenstone carpark because it's a loop anyway.
It could be busy, so maybe throw in a sleeping mat in case.
