Help to choose next trp

Sat 24 Aug, 2013 1:56 pm

Hi All,

My partner and I completed the Dusky track, NZ last year. We are looking at our new challenge. What would be a good extended trk option in NZ to explore next?

Yeah we can't just suggest all the great walks in NZ to you, you need to say more about yourself...

Apologies for the lack of initial information.
I hope the following information helps:

When: Nov/Dec
Duration: 8+ days
Difficulty: similar to dusky
Location: anywhere in NZ
Terrain: open to everything

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

no comment, thats still far to broad a range to comment on the range of difficulty of walks in nz is massive. do some homework on tracks you think you want to do based on the links i sent and then you're more likely to get feedback, you're basically asking us to do all the work for you. we're not travel agents with unlimited time for question and answer sessions sorry.

I hope this is better information. Again apologies for not providing sufficient information prior.

I have had a look at all the links provided (Thanks!)

I have come up with the following:

Start December 1st: Complete the hollyford track which i am comfortable doing going off all reports. I would then like to continue on via the Pyke - Big Bay route.
Does any one have any expereince on this route? What is navigation like? Do they have the orange markers or is it via maps? Would you consider it of similar grade to the dusky (that is the only other NZ track i have complete, therefore it is my only measuring stick).

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Three Passes?
On track. Might need crampons for Whitehorn.
Taipoiti Creek can be interesting after rain - as can the walk in to Carrington Hut and the walk up to Bowning Pass.
Styx Saddle is a scream! If you don't watch your step you can end up thigh deep in mud!
But a great tramp.
