Just finished my hammock this evening, all ready to go now except that i started making other things with my spectra rope so i need to get some more to make another whoopie sling... Once i find some nice trees, ill take some pics Did a bit of a mix of hammock types, one end being a gathered and whipped end, the other being a channel. Underquilt is next, cause its *&%$#! cold in the wind!

Sounds like a nice bit of kit! Did you get a bug net onto it as well?

Underquilts are terribly fun. Next thing you know you have like 4 of them made up !

No bug net as yet, i was thinging of just having one to hang off the ridge line for the time being..

I will chuck some pictures up next week, heading up north for the weekend and it is far too windy to put it up this arvo, i will end up kite sailing to antartica...

Cheap Oztrail tarp that i have had for a few years, not quite big enough and not as light as i would like it. Still will cover the hammock if i take the time to stake it out right...

Working on an underquilt next, using the sleeping bag that can be seen the the second two pics. After a half *&^%$#@! job of setting it up the other night, i think that wind is more of a factor than the actual temp rating of the bag, so i may look into some sort of windbreak fabric...


Any other pics anyone would like?

That's my thought too, but not having any experience I could well be wrong.

2QZQ make a hammock undercover from breathable, water resistant ripstop as well as silnylon if you want more water resistance at the expense of breathability. Good pricing too at $US35.

And you will definitely need an underquilt of some sort, I tried my hammock with a -4 rated bag and started getting cold at under 10 degrees or so. The wind or any air circulation that touches the hammock fabric robs your body heat pretty rapidly. I tried a multimat foam XL sized pad and the regular prolite plus inside the hammock but both sucked badly, they slid around in the night and generally fitted badly meaning that the comfort level of being in a hammock was pretty much negated and any part of my body that directly touched the fabric got really cold. I now have a thin synthetic underquilt from a US cottage manufacturer and it works a treat, no cold spots & lightweight. I'm sure with your skills you could knock one up easily enough, loveto see what you end up with.
