Where to buy 10D, 15D silnylon?

Postby BarryK » Wed 21 Apr, 2021 10:59 am

I could only find one vendor of these ultralight ripstop nylon fabrics on Aliexpress. I have ordered the last 7 metres of their 10D green with silicone coating both sides:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32625219053.html

...they still have other colours.

Factory direct is available from alibaba.com, and this company will sell samples as small as an order of 1 metre:

https://wjtuoxin.en.alibaba.com/product ... abric.html

However, required to be a business to register on Alibaba. It asks for business name and a landline.

I was wondering if anyone has successfully registered, and purchased, as an individual?

Or, does anyone know another vendor where an individual can order online?

I am also on the lookout for fine ultralight nylon mozzie mesh.

Note, that vendor on aliexpress only ships by "China Post Registered Airmail", which is unfortunate.
My China Post experience is from some years ago, and it was very slow.
"Aliexpress Standard Postage" to Australia is very fast, and I have found it to be reliable. Once arrive in Australia, delivery is by Aus. Post. A couple of tents that I ordered a couple of months ago, came to my doorstep in 9 days. Other orders taking similar or a bit longer.

For anyone who might be interested in this experience buying from the UK (EDIT: no, Adventure Expert is in Slovenia), I purchased 10D silnylon, coated with silicone both side:

https://www.adventurexpert.com/product/ ... on-fabric/

Maybe not obvious from the photo, but it is a fairly dark blue, probably what you would describe as "navy blue".

10.57 Euros per metre, I purchased 7 metres. Their online checkout currently is not setup for shipping to Australia, the order has to be processed manually. They took many countries off the shipping list during the pandemic, as shipping out of the UK (EDIT: Slovenia) got very slow.

I communicated with them by email, let them know what I wanted and my address and phone number. I paid by PayPal. They shipped by DHL, which cost 29 Euros.

Shipping was remarkably fast. They sent me an email on April 28 that they had shipped it, and it arrived at my door on May 5.

Good to know they are sending here again for a more 'reasonable' price-I tried last August but the postage was just way too high. They're in Slovenia.

Ah, OK, not the UK.

I have some "navy blue" ripstop from Spotlight, and put it alongside this new 10D silnylon -- the Spotlight fabric is a little bit darker.

On their website, they describe their 10D silnylon as "ocean blue".

Hey Barry how does the Spotlight stuff compare to the AdExpert stuff? What is it? Do you have a link to Spotlight's dodgy site?
I made some things from their sale/clearance section- outdoor furniture canvas PU backed a while back-$6 a metre and app 250gm/m -very hard to kill.
Their 'bargain/sale' area has some...... bargains. :D

Sorry, I only just saw your question today. I bought this stuff:

https://www.spotlightstores.com/sold-by ... 0070051002

...it was on special, $6.60/metre and I just bought 1 metre.

It is just ripstop nylon fabric, not coated with anything. 72gsm, so quite heavy.

That fabric I bought from Adventure expert, 10D silnylon, is 31gsm (grams per square metre).

Tim (telemarktim), mentioned in another thread, that glueing silnylon with silicone sealant works better with some silnylons than others. I have read this elsewhere also. There seems to be a difference in the chemical composition of the silicone used in the fabric. So I thought that I might experiment with some other silnylon, and found this:

https://www.extremtextil.de/en/ripstop- ... g-sqm.html

...most intrigued, it is 20D and only 36gsm, not much heavier than the 10D fabric. Also, it is made in Taiwan. Have ordered some.

Hi BarryK, Please let me know how the silicone glueing goes. Pure nylon stocking material glues very well. I think it may be the water-repellant on some synthetic fabrics the spoil the glueing.
