Last night's efforts

Postby Petew » Fri 29 Nov, 2019 8:06 am

Made this lot last night from 2.92 Oz Hybrid DCF.

Three zip pouches with gusseted bases, YKK Uretek zips and seam taped.

Mini hiking wallet, same construction but no gusset in base.

Almost out of zip :(

I got some green zip from ripsdtopbytheroll.... I do prefer a contrasting colour so you can find it.

I'd make more of the things that sell quickly. Good Luck.

Thanks Warin,

Got a bit of the green coming from ripstop by the roll, some more red from Treadlight and black from Dutchware. I'm completely out of black and have about 18 inches left of the red so probably some more wallets.

I have sold all the previous stuff listed earlier.

Cheers Lamont,

Sold a little bit through here and the rest via gear freaks Australia on Facebook.

I have a bunch of new fabric on the way from ripstop by the roll, a couple of X-Pac hexcam bits in VX 15, some plain X-Pac in v 15 etc

Hi Pete,

They look good, if you want to try and start making a few more complex pieces, I have a few things I wouldn't mind getting made out of waterproof 15D ripstop.
1. A rain cover for my Tilly Hat.
2. A type of poncho, no hood but with a collar, a gusset at the front of the neck that can be left open for air to escape and a snap to close the gusset if need be. I only want to to go down to my hip so it pairs nicely with my rain kilt. And only reaches my elbows.
3. Poncho sleeves. Something with an elastized snap around my upper arm that goes down to my finger tips.

I'm got a full on Goretex jacket which works great for Winter but I find rain jackets too sweaty most of the time. A lot of the UL jackets simply aren't rain-proof or don't come in my size 3XL so a system like the one above would be awesome.

If your interested, PM me and we can discuss the details.

Hi crollsurf,

Thanks for asking. I wouldn't want to tackle any clothing stuff just yet, but down the track I might.

Plan is to start out doing wallets, dry bags, pouches etc. Then probably bum bags and totes. I'm quite keen to end up with a self made pack, tent and sleeping bag. Then some clothing maybe. I too hate rainwear in all but freezing conditions and love rain skirts, so much better than overpants most of the time. A rain skirt will probably be the first clothing item I make.

I really like your idea of an open hoodless poncho with hat cover and arm gaiters? Sounds nice and airy.

Have you looked at the el cheapo frog toggs? They do a 2xl and their sizes run big so might fit?

The jackets are around $30 so no issue chopping the sleeves off etc....

Thanks Pete and I get that. I was thinking of getting the material and talking to my local Tailor. Kids and school clothes! I already have a good relationship with them.

But if anyone in the UL MYOG community wants to give it a go, PM me. Happy to pay the material RnD costs and for product delivery on top of that, within reason.

Neck pouches might have a market. I DIY my own when I want one but they are very handy for small "Survival" bits that you simply do not ever want to lose, such as you mobile phone

Oh, I've listed all the new stuff I've got here:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=30578

Hoping to sell enough stuff to buy a new sewing machine. I'm using my mum's Janome my style 16s. It works well but struggles a bit sometimes. I don't think the 's' stands for sport:)

Yes, I still have an old QANTAS one I sometimes use but also a couple of DIY with extra padding to protect my new semi-smart phone. Small plastic rings in the top corners for suspending. My own I sew and extra small flat pocket to the front because I find it a handy place to put the plate compass. If I make another I'll add a sleeve to take the Swedish Firestik

Sounds good. I'll have to wait though, I'm pretty much out of fabric, sealing tape and DCF. Hopefully I'll get some next Friday. My fabric is enjoying some time in Honolulu, so FedEx tells me.

Could do a chest pouch too, maybe a litre sized one with a couple of mitten hooks , shock cord/cord and barrel locks. I'm finding MYOG highly addictive.
