Tyvek Alternative

Hi everyone
I have been trying to find a light weight alternative to Tyvek to make a Bivvy & have come across this;

http://www.ametalin.com/insulation-prod ... insulation

The spec sheet shows it to be far superior to Tyvek & I was wondering if anyone has used it. I am considering buying a roll as it isn't sold by the meter (same as Tyvek) & was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying some? Cost would be $5 per meter including postage.

superior in what way? those R values are installed only, so that relies on the size of your air-gap, something you don't have with a bivy (unless you seal it.... you'd be warm to the end)

If its cheap enough to gamble on, it might be worth while, as it preforms a similar function to tyvec. But it all depends on what factor you were comparing.

It isn't as tough and it crinkles if the sample I got from Bunnings is anything to go on

Bart ,
Contrary to what many think, Tyvek is a sub brand of Dupont (like say EOS cameras for Canon or Bravia TVs for Sony) NOT a single product.
Each of the many types of Tyvek has different characteristics (they would not make over a dozen all the same, would they...) and the type used for bivvies is not the Home Wrap but the soft/cloth type (also called kite type) like the 1443R.
Some will use the Home Wrap version for the bottom because it is somewhat waterproof and has better abrasion resistance.
The 1443R breathes the best.
I am pretty sure the one you linked to will not breath the way you think it does (it might be very breathable for a house not a human body...)
Here are 3 types of Tyvek I had on hand :

Hi Franco
Thanks for the response. I ended up buying a Bivvy so I'll see how that pans out. I guess trying to cheap out on things in the winter might not be the best option
